My name is Peter, and I am a writer and professor in Seattle.

My work has appeared in The Seattle Times, The Millions, College Composition and Communication, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Rhetoric Review, Leviathan: A Journal of Melville Studies, and Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, among other places.

I’m currently writing a book on whales and how someone might come to know the unknowable, and while I’m working on that, I’m also leading a project to hang a whale skeleton in my university’s science building.

I earned my BA in literature at Western Washington University (2005), MA in rhetoric and composition at Eastern Washington University (2010), and PhD in critical and cultural studies at the University of Pittsburgh (2015), and I currently oversee the first-year writing program at Seattle Pacific University.
